Lots of folks getting mohawks around here to show their support for the Rays going to the playoffs. I'm not going to do that, but this art is in honor Tampa Bay Rays. Good luck.
I haven't made any progress this week the way I had hoped. However I have two freelance projects going and I'm still waiting to hear back from another. One is for a non-profit. It doesn't pay much but I get repeat business and word of mouth. Oh, and its for a good cause.
The topic of the week on Illustration Friday is "Detach" Here's my contribution. A week ago I visited the Kennedy Space Center. After seeing many graphic representations of the Saturn V and Apollo Lunar Module, I've been looking for an excuse to illustrate some sort of rocket.
More doodles. I usually work on projects or draw something in my sketchbook between the hours of Midnight and 3 a.m. This is a great time for me because I can usually get more done when I know everyone else is asleep.
Here is the illustration I did for the Society for News Design. It will appear on the Six of Spades card, in a deck of cards being handed out at the SND conference in Vegas, Sept 7-9. It's an honor to have my illustration in a deck with other artists I admire.
My artist friend Kyle Alcottover at the Dallas Morning News requested a design for a T-shirt. I think he said Zombie so I took the idea and ran. I believe he will be sporting this little number sometime at the Society for News Designconference, September in Vegas.
This is how the cobra design came out for a local wheel distributor to be used on caps for their rims. It was a quick turnaround and it turned out nice and clean.
This one I did a little while ago. I was contemplating what to sketch in the ole sketchbook when a friend at work said, "How about an aardvark". I think she was being sarcastic, but I went full steam ahead with my pen in hand.
I picked up a pencil this weekend after many years of using pens in my sketchbook. Not to bad. I think Rocket Man on the right will be my next Illo. Stay tuned. I think the left sketch came about from a stressful Thursday at work last week.
