Cashing in on marine economy

Southwest Florida's home in the midst of three national estuaries has been part of its charm for many generations of visitors, and has managed to foster meaningful payrolls in fishing and seafood, boat building, transport and marine research. But the future could be even brighter. The Gulf Coast Community Foundation is offering cash grants for concepts that can be put into action. The Herald-Tribune is taking a closer look at the proposals, which range from artificial reef building to renovating spoils islands.
